DECEMBER 2010 NEWS

GIANT JELLY BABIES - what a saga! Due to an ordering system failure at the manufacturers we still have not received our supply of much awaited Giant Jelly Babies. I have been assured today that the problem is now sorted and our shipment will be on its way this week. This puts the ETA in to our store on Wednesday the 22nd of December. All we can say is better late than never I guess.......
We have altered our range of scoop icecream. Streets no longer make the premium scoop icecream we have carried for 25 years. The quality of the new range Streets were offering was absolutely woeful, so we have changed all our flavours over to Valhalla Icecream, made here in Tasmania. Previously we used about half Streets and half Valhalla picking the best from each maker. Now that we have made the change we realise we should have done it ages ago anyway! Valhalla have a big variety of fantastic flavours and the premium quality is there for the tasting. So our regulars will notice that some of the icecream looks very different but we are sure they will be thrilled with the Valhalla alternative. We have already trialled some new flavours; Macadamia with marmalade was to die for, it was a wonderful combination loaded with macadamia nuts and loads of real marmalade swirled through; Cinnamon is rich and creamy and not too strong; Christmas Pudding is back for the festive season and full of rum and fruit; Rocky Road is really popular, loaded with marshmallows, raspberry swirl and nuts. We will keep introducing new flavours so we can all try them out. We have ordered new freezer displays so that we will be able to carry 29 Flavours at once, so choosing a flavour is about to get even harder!!
With Christmas only days way now, the sales of anything ginger are going through the roof. Dark chocolate ginger is always a big winner and Ginger Butters are the boiled sweet alternative, made here in Tasmania - people keep returning for more. English Dolly Mix is another Christmas specialty along with English Licorice Allsorts.

What are the top sellers at the moment???
Choc coated Aniseed Rings (milk or dark)
Choc coated coffee beans (mix of milk, dark, white)
English dusted jelly babies

Slate pencils
Giant Freckles

October Update

Hi Folks,
We have 3 new hand made treats for you this month. Firstly, Fruit Drops - traditonal round balls of fruit flavoured toffee in red, yellow, green and orange. The flavours are just divine, really fresh and crisp. Secondly, Peanut Brittle drops - a dark toffee ball with bits of peanut. These are a very different product to our Peanut Brittle slab which is made to a different recipe. Some people will like the convenience of the consistent shape and size of the drops compared to the broken slab pieces. Thirdly, Eucalyptus Drops - yellow and green toffee drops with a distinct eucalyptus flavour. You can smell the sweet eucalyptus aroma as soon as we open the jar. Customers have been asking for these old style eucalyptus drops for ages as an alternative to Eucalypties, which have a soft centre. The flavour is neither too strong, nor too timid - just right in our opinion. Try some and tell us what you think. Remember when you come in to the shop there is always a tray of samples for you to try!
GIANT JELLY BABIES are back in production as of 19 Oct. We have placed an order and waiting our turn for delivery!!!!!!! Hopefully this will be in the first week of November. Boy, are we excited............
sad news - our wholesaler forgot to order our new flavours of turkish Delight. Now that has made us very cross, but not much we can do about it now, but wait until the next shipment. Cadbury New Zealand stopped the manufacture of Toasties briefly, but we now have them back in stock. We also have a New Zealand product called Eskimos on the shelf as something new for us. They are hard to describe..... like a hard marshmallow in texture (like the lolly bananas) in three colours pink, white and green, in the shape similar to a big jelly baby. I nearly forgot, we now have Irish Cream Almonds back on the shelf to please the regulars - a delicious alternative to plain choc almonds.
In our icecream freezer, we now have Coconut Icecream back due to customer demand. It is soooo nice I could eat the whole tub myself!! The Rum and Raisin has been really popular lately, along with the Jamaican Coffee. There are so many wonderful flavours that it is too hard to choose just one, so we offer a twin serve, which is 2 small scoops on a cone so that makes the decision a little easier!
So what has been jumping off the shelf this month -
Candy Bullets
Extra soft Fruit Jellies
English Dusted Jelly Babies
Red Frogs
Sarsparilla Rock
Peanut Clusters
Happy Munching from the Sweets and Treats Team ;)

First Post Ever!

Hi Folks,
As this is the first post, here is a run down of news from the last few months.
We are still getting lots of email enquiries about Giant Jelly Babies.
We are sorry to report that they are still out of production, waiting for the manufacturer to complete a major factory refit. They were meant to be ready in March, then it was July, now they won’t give a date as they are so far behind schedule that no one is game to predict. I am about to contact them again and I will let you all know as soon as we have an update. There is no other jelly like them, so we all just have to be patient.....
The Prydes factory is back in production after a very messy sale. Not all lines are available yet, but we do have Aniseed Rings, Tarzan Jubes, Sparkles, Turkish Delight, Fruit Jellies, Jelly Beans and they are the most popular.
CHOO CHOO BARS are now available again after an absence of many years. A new company is now  making them to the original recipe. They are making two types, Licorice and a Raspberry. The packaging uses the original colours with a recognisable design.
Earlier this year we asked our local icecream maker, Valhalla, to make us some Turkish Delight Icecream. He came up with a rich chocolate icecream with that beautiful rose turkish delight flavour. It is truly delicious and has really hit the spot with all the turkish delight fans, and there are many!!
Speaking of Turkish Delight, we are ordering in a new range of Turkish Delight Flavours. Soon you will be able to get not only the rose flavour but LEMON, ORANGE and CHERRY. We are looking forward to having these new flavours to try.
SLATE PENCILS are back on the shelf!  At long last we have tracked down them down again and we are all smiling. They are a bit shorter than they used to be, but the flavour and texture are just how we remembered. For those who don’t know them, they are like a musk stick to look at, grey in colour and aniseed in flavour.
We are having trouble keeping up the supply of PEANUT BRITTLE - it is selling by the bucket load!! It is made here in Tasmania by Gourlays and is surely the best peanut brittle ever. A truly rich, buttery toffee slab full of peanuts. They also do a COCONUT BRITTLE that is unique to us and really worth a try for something different.
Some other top selling sweets of the moment are -
Milk Choc Aniseed Rings
Milk Choc Raspberries - 3 different types
Raspberry Drops
Sherbet Lemons
Big Boss Caramel Sticks (formerly Big Boss Cigars)
Dusted Turkish Delight
Licorice Bullets - we have 7 different types!

Happy Munching ;)
